At the photo shop, there was a man who was enamored with our little girl (he wanted to hold her hands), although, he thought she was a boy and I didn't have the heart to correct him. It's partly my fault because I dressed her in brown to match her mommy and she was wrapped in a cream-colored blanket. Another reason for his incorrect assumption is because she is the spitting image of her father as seen in this side by side comparison.
What you can't see on Aedan's outfit is the pink wording across her chest that says "Mommy adores me" which couldn't be more true. You can barely make out the pink rose and bow on the neckline below her chin. Still, she is definitely more handsome than conventionally pretty, just like her daddy.
Aaron insisted that I dress her in pink today so that everyone knew she was a girl while we were out. It didn't always work, though. Several people while shopping referred to her as a "he". Again, most everyone wanted a closer look. It must be good luck in India to touch a newborn because a lot of people will completely invade your space to near a baby.
Despite numerous attempts to schedule our DNA test for sooner, we have to wait until next Tuesday to go to the Embassy. The results have to be received back from the lab in the US before a passport can be issued and take about a week. Once we have a passport, we can then request an exit visa. That process usually only takes 3 business days, but has been taking longer if the Official requires an "inquiry" into our case. If that happens, our surrogate will have to be interviewed which can add at least a week to the normal time frame.
Aedan was seen by the doctor today for a blocked/infected tear duct, excessive gas (colic?) and a skin rash which can be caused by the heat and humidity. Basically, the sweat glands become clogged and can blister over. She was weighed as part of the exam and I'm happy to report that she hasn't lost any additional weight since the day we took her home which is only about 5% less than her birth weight. It is normally for babies to lose up to 10% in the first 10 days of life.
Now, if we can just get her to poop again (it's been 6 days) and start gaining weight. I never thought I would be praying so hard for a poopy diaper.
Indians are not as hung up on gender colors as Americans hence what you are experiencing.
ReplyDelete7 days is too long. She is impacted. You must try a glycerin suppository asap or have pediatrician deimpact her. If you wait longer she might have a problem. Also switch formula it is prob source of constipation

Anon, thanks for your concern. We had our baby at the pediatrician's today and were told that is not uncommon for breastfed (yes, you read that correctly, we're NOT using formula) to go up to 8 days without a bowel movement. If their bodies are absorbing all that they are eating, then they won't have anything to pass. He was not overly concerned so neither are we.
ReplyDeletei think that is amazing you are not using formula...would you mind sharing with me what you are doing? We are working with Dr. Shivani as well and might be (hopefully) doing what you are next year. Did you induce lactation or are you using a bank? If you wouldn't mind sharing, I would be so grateful. ashleysikora@me.com
ReplyDeleteI thought she looked just like daddy from the first day and wow, does she ever now that the mug shots are in! I am very happy to hear all is going well and you should be home soon.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful son!
ReplyDeleteIf you have a rectal thermometer, most times the stimulation of inserting it as if you were taking the baby's temperature is enough to enourage things to move along. Hold it in for a few minutes. Use the pediatric glycerin suppositories only on the advice of a pediatrician (we've had to use them a few times, but only on our older babies). Breast fed babies do have far fewer BMs.
Wow, that's amazing how much Aeden looks like her daddy, down to the hairline I hope she skips the 5 o'clock shadow when she gets bigger! As for Indians and newborns, it is traditional for new moms and infants to stay home for 40 days after the birth (I think that's the number, maybe it was 3 months) so it is extremely rare to see a baby that little outside. That's probably why she's getting so much attention. That and the adorable pink ribbons!
ReplyDeleteHope your embassy stuff goes quickly.
I think anon was trying to be helpful and yes while babies can go for a week without pooping it is not ideal. It might be your breast milk is too concentrated and needs to be diluted and given by bottle. Also are you taking any supplements like iron which can be binding for newborns?

That is one gorgeous little gal! And even more so in person! I think you should be permitted to pass on having a DNA test at all...just show them the pics and you should be good to go!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteIf only it were that easy. By the way, did you go to a photo shop or did someone come to you? With 3, I think I'd like to have a house call on that. See you Tuesday.
She is beautiful!!! You tell me one person that likes their drivers license and passport photo... Just beautiful!!!
